Publié le null - Directorate for Legal and Administrative Information (Prime Minister)

As of February 6, 2023, requests for access to French nationality must be made by dematerialized means (online). A new platform, NATALI, is being set up for this purpose by the Ministry of the Interior. The details are set out in a decree and several orders published in the Official Journal of 5 February 2023. Service-Public.fr tells you how to do this.

As of February 6, 2023, you no longer have to travel to apply for naturalization or reintegration into French nationality by decree, or send your file by mail. The procedure is completely dematerialized thanks to the online service NATALI, as stated in the Decree of 3 February 2023.

Various orders of 3 February 2023 specify the modalities for the deployment of the dematerialization of services and for assisting users in their use of online service.

The NATALI service allows users or their authorized representative to complete the formalities necessary for applications for naturalization or reintegration into French nationality by electronic means by decree.

A personal area allows to follow the progress of the file in real time, to inform the user of the need to provide possible new parts and to transmit the decisions.

The NATALI service also allows users or their authorized representative to file on-line administrative appeals against unfavorable decisions taken against them.

If you live in one of the following departments, you cannot do this formality online yet:

  • French Polynesia (987);
  • Guyana (973);
  • Saint Pierre and Miquelon (975);
  • Saint-Martin-Saint-Barthélémy (971);
  • New Caledonia (985);
  • Wallis and Futuna (986).

Access to the online process is not yet available for foreigners currently employed in the French army, they have to travel to the prefecture to apply for naturalization by decree.

Please note

Only the assimilation interview carried out for the examination of the file requires the presence of the applicant, as well as the welcoming ceremony if the application has received a favorable response.

Warning

All applications for naturalization by decree must now be made in a paperless manner. Any paper file submitted after February 6, 2023, will be returned to the sender.

If you submitted your application before February 6, 2023, and you were assigned a file number, you should not reapply, as this could delay the processing of your file.

Arrangements are put in place to help you build your case:

  • digital reception points in the prefectures: provision of computer equipment and agents on site to help you with tele-procedures;
  • the Citizen Contact Center (CTC): either via an online contact form or by calling 0806 001 620 (free call from a fixed station or if the mobile package includes calls to a fixed station).

Please note

To know the documents to be provided for French naturalization by decree, you can use the simulator available on Service-Public.fr or go to the “ Naturalization or reintegration into French nationality (procedure by decree) on the website of the police prefecture.
