Reconciling justice: you can help settle disputes out of court

Public or private sector executives, teachers, police officers, shopkeepers... Justice conciliators come from various professional backgrounds. Volunteers, they assist people to find a solution to their differences. Service-Public.fr tells you how to become a justice conciliator.

The conciliator of justice is one volunteer justice assistant. Its mission is to enable the amicable settlement of disputes by listening to and receiving the various parties.

The conciliator can intervene in many situations, for example:

  • disagreements between landlords and tenants or between tenants;
  • disturbances in the neighborhood;
  • disputes between traders;
  • labor disputes.

FYI  

since october 2023, it has been mandatory to use an amicable method of resolution before bringing a dispute before the court for payment of less than €5,000.

Who can become a reconciler of justice?

To become a justice conciliator, you must:

  • be of age;
  • enjoy your civil and political rights;
  • have legal training or experience ;
  • not to engage in any judicial activity in any capacity: delegate of the prosecutor, mediator, assessor, guardianship manager, etc. ;
  • have no elected office within the jurisdiction of the Court of Appeal where conciliation is exercised.
