What is Electronic Travel Authorization?

As of April 2, 2025, all visitors traveling to the UK without a visa will need to obtain their ETA before leaving.

This document concerns travel to the United Kingdom for leisure, authorized professional activities, short studies and land transit (border control when connecting with a return flight).

It is not a visa, so the application is simplified and fast; it is done online with an average processing time of 3 working days.

The cost of ETA is £10, or about €12. As of April 9, 2025, The price increases to €16.

It is valid 2 years, or until the passport to which it is linked expires (if it expires first). It allows several short stays (maximum duration of 6 months per visit).

How do I get it?

The ETA application can be made from 5 march.

You can go through the mobile application UK ETA App via the UK government website (the application is available on the App Store and Google Play).

To apply for an ETA, you will need the following documents:

  • a valid biometric passport issued by a country with the UK visa exception;
  • a recent high-quality digital photo identity;
  • a valid e-mail address
  • a functional electronic means of payment.

Please note

Pupils aged 18 and under traveling to the United Kingdom on a school trip are exempt from the ETA requirement. They will have to be equipped with exit permit, a copy of their parents' identity papers and a valid passport or identity card.
