Livret A: what regulations for the payment ceiling?

A booklet A allows you to grow your savings securely, and benefit from interest exempt from income tax and social security taxes. While misleading information about this state-regulated savings product is currently circulating on the internet, Service-Public.fr reminds you of the rules in force concerning the ceiling for the payment of booklet A.

You can open an A book, whether you are a minor or an adult; it can be opened at any bank (most online banks also offer this regulated savings product).

The minimum amount of a payment on livret A is 10 € (1,5 € if you have opened your livret A at La Banque Postale). There is no obligation to make periodic payments. You can deposit or withdraw money at any time.

When your booklet A reaches the regulatory ceiling of €22 950You can no longer deposit money there. On the other hand, the interest generated each year continues to be added even beyond this ceiling, and without limit, as long as your booklet remains open.

Since 1er February 2025, the annual interest rate for livret A is set at 2.4%, compared to 3% previously. The accumulated interest is added to the capital of your livret A on December 31 of each year. Such interest shall be exempt from income tax and social security contributions.

Please note

Misleading information is currently circulating on the Internet about booklet A. Contrary to what is stated in certain articles, there are no future regulations providing for the freezing of A booklets, the amount of which exceeds €23 500 and the holder of which has not provided proof of income.
