Carte grise The cost of a certificate of registration, more commonly known as a certificate of registration, is variable. It depends in particular on the characteristics of your vehicle and the region in which you live. The regional tax, which is one of the components of the cost of the registration certificate, is set by each regional council and can be reviewed annually.

Until then, clean vehicles (those that use electricity, hydrogen or a combination of the two as an energy source) were exempt from the regional tax in all regions.

The 2025 budget law, published on 15 February 2025, provides that each regional council can, after deliberation,

  • cut the regional tax in half for clean vehicles;
  • or to fully exempt clean vehicles from the regional tax.

The decision taken by each region has been effective since 1er May 2025.
