The High Health Authority is expanding the population that can catch up with the HPV vaccine. It now covers all men and women up to the age of 26. Service-Public.fr inform you about the vaccination strategy in question.

The High Authority issued a new recommendation on 13 May 2025 on the vaccination against HPV. The goal is to increase vaccination coverage and reduce inequalities related to gender and sexual orientation.

It advocates a catch-up vaccination for women and men up to the age of 26. At the same time, it recalls that the priority remains vaccination of the main target population, namely adolescents aged 11 to 14 years, girls and boys.

Catch-up vaccination, with Gardasil 9 vaccine, has so far been managed:

  • heterosexual men and women up to 19 years of age;
  • and up to 26 years for men who have sex with men.

It is now up to age 26, regardless of sexual orientation.

Schedule of vaccinations according to the situation

  • The human papillomavirus vaccine regimen consists of 2 doses given at least 5 months apart for girls and boys aged 11 to 14 years.
  • In catch-up, 15 to 19 years of age, the vaccination schedule is 3 doses.
  • Up to the age of 26 years, for men and women, the vaccination schedule is 3 doses.

Please note

HAS reminds us that protection is “optimal” when the vaccine is administered early and that it should not wait until adulthood to realize it. It states that “three-quarters of young adults up to 26 years of age have not yet been exposed to MPA infections but are at high risk of acquiring and transmitting them.”
