What are the revenue caps for opening a popular savings book in 2025?

The Livret d’Savement Populaire (LEP) is a product with an attractive interest rate; it is better paid than the Livret A in particular. To open and hold a SARA, you must meet certain income requirements. Service-Public.fr tells you the maximum income limit that you can expect to earn in 2025, depending on your family situation.

The annual interest rate on the People’s Savings Book (PBS) has been set at 3.5% since 1 February 2025 ; this rate is 2,4 % for booklet A.

In 2025, before opening an SMP, the bank checks, according to the date of the request to open, your reference tax income of the year 2023 (on your notice of assessment 2024) or the year 2024 (on your tax notice available as of summer 2025). This tax revenue must not exceed a limit, which varies depending on the composition of your household. For example, the revenue cap for opening a SMP in 2025 in the mainland is:

  • €22,823 for a single person (1 share of family quotient), compared with €22 419 previously;
  • €35,012 for a married or former couple subject to common taxation (2 parts family quotient), compared with EUR 34 393 previously;
  • €47,203 for a married or former couple subject to common taxation, and having 2 children with primary or exclusive dependants (3 parts of family quotient), compared with €46,367 previously.

If your income exceeds the family income limit in a year, you can keep your SMP. On the other hand, when your income exceeds this ceiling 2 consecutive years, your SMP is necessarily closed.

You can find on our factsheet on the popular savings book the income ceiling corresponding to each family situation, in mainland France and overseas.

Reminder

The deposit limit on a popular savings book is set at €10,000. When your SMP reaches this level, you can no longer make a new payment. However, accounting for interest paid by your bank may exceed this limit.
