Divorce, dismissal, over-indebtedness... How to find information and legal aid?

All persons present in France, regardless of their income, age, sex, place of life or nationality, must be able to be informed of their rights and obligations, and be assisted in their efforts. That is what access to the law is all about. You can request to benefit free of charge:

• legal consultation;
• assistance with legal formalities;
• legal information on your rights and obligations;
• assistance in drafting legal acts.

Since 2018, National Access to Law Day (JNAD) has been an opportunity to introduce everyone to the different ways in which they can access information or legal aid.

The 8^e edition of this event takes place may 23, 2025 ; the 101 councils for access to the law and the 4 councils for access to the law organize numerous events throughout France: debates, symposia, exhibitions, open doors, etc. You can use the this directory to find the contact details of the departmental council of access to the right closest to your home.

What are the mechanisms and places of access to the right?

• The point-justice, spread throughout the country, allow you to obtain information, seek assistance in your procedures and obtain legal advice in all areas of daily life (family, work, consumption, housing, help for victims of domestic violence, etc.). These reception facilities are free and confidential.
• The toll-free 3039 phone number, which is accessible to deaf and hard of hearing people, allows you to be connected to the nearest justice point and to obtain information or assistance (if you are in an overseas community or abroad, call 09 70 82 31 90).
• The site justice.fr and the mobile application justice.fr allows you to obtain legal information and be guided in your legal proceedings.
