RSA request: Can lifestyle be considered?

Verified 09 September 2022 - Directorate for Legal and Administrative Information (Prime Minister)

Yes, if there is a significant gap between the resources you reported and the lifestyle of your household.

Lifestyle assessment

This assessment can be done at the time of reviewing your RSA application or during a review.

To evaluate your lifestyle, some elements of your movable or real estate assets held in France or abroad by members of your household are taken into account:

  • Built or unbuilt properties owned or occupied by your household
  • Work, expenses and maintenance costs of buildings belonging to your household
  • Cars, pleasure boats and motorcycles in the home
  • Household appliances, sound-video equipment and household computer equipment
  • Travel, hotel stays, seasonal rentals, restaurants, reception fees, cultural, educational, communication and leisure goods and services

A flat-rate scale is set for each of the elements of the lifestyles.

If this scale exceeds certain thresholds, your lifestyle is considered to determine your entitlement to the RSA.

The result of the assessment is forwarded to the department departments that assign you the RSA.

Please note

the resources taken into account are those received during the 3 months preceding the application or revision of the SSA.

Control procedure

When the assessment finds a significant discrepancy between the resources you reported and the lifestyle of your household, a letter RAR: titleContent is addressed to you.

The letter informs you of the following:

  • Subject matter of the procedure initiated, its progress and possible consequences
  • Possibility of being summoned and assisted by the person of your choice

You must then complete a questionnaire and return it, within 30 days of receipt, accompanied by supporting documents.

If you do not comply with this obligation, the payment of your RSA: titleContent may be suspended until the production of the requested documents or the response to the summons.
