What discounts apply to seniors on public transport?

Older people can benefit from discounts on public transport. However, this is not a general obligation for transport organisations. No text imposes reduced rates on the basis of age alone.

General case

The SNCF offers people over 60 years of age Advantage card (exSenior Card).

It costs €49 per year.

It allows to benefit from 30% discount every day on all INOUI TGV journeys in France and Europe, Intercité and TER (if the regions accept this reduction of 30%).

It also allows you to benefit from prices in 2nde classes that do not exceed a certain amount for all destinations in France regardless of the day and time of booking.

These prices are:

  • €39 for short journeys (less than 1h30)
  • €59 for intermediate journeys (between 1h30 and 3h)
  • €79 for the longest journeys (more than 3 hours)

Senior+ card recipients can continue to use the card until its expiry date.

If you live in Paris

The Paris Senior Access Pass allows you to move around free throughout the Île-de-France network.

To get it, you must meet the following 3 conditions:

  • 65 years of age (or 60 years if found unfit for work)
  • Resident in Paris for at least 3 years
  • Belonging to a tax household paying tax on income subject to a scale less than or equal to €2,028 for 1re request €2,430 for a renewal (line 14 of the tax notice). This resource condition does not apply to you if you are a war veteran or widower or veteran.
