Withdrawal of licences: what are the rules?

Your licence is invalidated : you're not allowed to drive anymore.

You are informed by registered letter with AR (letter 48SI).

You must return your licence to the prefecture.

The driving ban goes 6 months to 1 year.

To obtain a new licence, you must pass a medical check including psychotechnical test.

You must re-write the code and conduct if you have been licenced for less than 3 years.

Otherwise, you must at least rewrite the code.

For example, driving drunk, under narcotics control, exceeding the maximum authorised speed by 40 km/h or more.

Law enforcement can take your licence. We talk about retention.

You do not have the right to drive until the end of the detention.

The retention of your licence 72 hours (120 hours after drinking and driving or narcotic).

If the offence is not established, you can recover your driving licence.
