You have a social security number
You are a French, European student (EEE and Switzerland) or another nationality and you have a social security number? The procedure to follow depends on whether or not you are already attached to a social protection organization (examples: primary health insurance fund, Mutual social insurance for agriculture).
If you enroll for the first time in a higher education institution, you do not change the compulsory health insurance scheme (general scheme, MSA ...). In practice, the diet is often that of your parents. The same will be true the following year.
You are entitled to reimbursement of your care in case of illness or maternity.
To supplement health insurance reimbursements, you can join a health complementary. To do this, you have the choice between:
- A student union
- Or your parents' mutual
- Or any other complementary body.
Subject to resource conditions, you may be entitled to complementary health solidarity (C2S).
A simulator lets you know if you can benefit from C2S:
Estimate your rights to the complementary health solidarity
FYI
if you have annual emergency aid, you are entitled to C2S as an individual.
At 18, you become a “self-insured”.
In the months following your birthday, your CPAM: titleContent sends you a postal mail. This letter states that you now have care under your own social security number. It invites you to create your own ameli account.
However, at the age of 16, you can ask to be insured on request from your health insurance fund.
To do this, you must fill out the cerfa form n°15680.
Application for payment of personal health costs in the event of sickness or maternity
You are applying for membership under the universal health protection (Puma).
The Puma guarantees to any person working or resident in France on a stable and regular basis a right to be paid for his health costs on a personal basis and on a continuous basis throughout life.
To do this, you fill out the cerfa form n°15763 by attaching the documents mentioned on the back.
Claiming entitlement to health insurance
You send this form and the requested documents to the CPAM: titleContent.
You don't have a social security number
If you were born abroad and do not have a social security number, register on the website student-foreigner.ameli.fr.
Registration of a foreigner student to Social Security
FYI
if you work in France during your studies, you are covered by the universal health protection (Puma). The Puma guarantees to any person working or resident in France on a stable and regular basis a right to be paid for his health costs on a personal basis and on a continuous basis throughout life.
If you are a national of the European Economic Area or from Switzerland and come to study in France, you are considered as a temporary stay and must be affiliated to the health insurance scheme of your country of origin.
You can ask the social protection agency of your country of origin one European Health Insurance Card (EHIC).
As long as it is valid until at least the end of the academic year, this organization will continue to cover your refunds.
Check with your local affiliate and the CPAM: titleContent.
FYI
if you work in France during your studies, you are covered by the universal health protection (Puma).
If you don't have an EHIC but you have the S1 form, register on the website student-alien.ameli.fr. The same is true if you do not have any of these 2 documents.
