How do I get a Siren number or a Siret?

Siren means company directory identification system.

It is 9 digits long.

Siret means a system for identifying the register of establishments.

It is composed of 14 digits: the 9 digits of the Siren + 5 digits specific to each establishment (these 5 digits are called NCI, internal classification number (Insee).

Please note

The Siren number is included in the Siret number, which is why you will often be asked the Siret your principal place of business or head office.

The number Siren is the unique identification number of a company.

The number Siret is the identifier of each of the establishments company. He gives a geographical indication which the Siren does not give.

Example :

1 head office and 2 sales stores = 3 Siret numbers + 1 Siren.

1 head office and 1 production plant = 1 Siren + 2 Siret

individual business 2 different activities within a single Siren and as many Siret as institutions

individual business 1 and 1 business = 2 Siren for each of the companies and as many Siret as establishments

They are assigned following the registration of your company (also called activity declaration).

You have no no steps to ask for them.

You automatically receive them as soon as your application for registration is accepted.

You will then find your Siren and Siret in your personal space on the Single window for company formalities.

Since 1er january 2023, it is no longer possible to carry out your procedures in a company Formalities Center (CFE). You must make them on the website of the company formalities office.

If you can't find it, it's because your application for registration has not yet been accepted.

Warning  

Insee no longer provides certificate of registration from 1er January 2023. You can find all the information related to your registration on the website of the One-stop shop.

It provides access to all legal information and financial of a company.

These data are public. Anyone who wants to can consult them.

You must mention the Siren on the payroll of employees, on all commercial documents and on mail and administrative forms.

Its assignment automatically triggers the registration of your company in the SIRENE directory.

The Siren number enters the composition other company identification numbers : the Siret and the intra-Community VAT number.

The Siret number is used to identify geographical location your company and each establishment that makes it up.

It identifies the place where takes place the activity.

You must mention the Siret on the payroll of the employees who work in the establishment concerned.

The Siret shall appear on the company invoices.

The Siren is awarded to you for life if you are an individual entrepreneur IS: titleContent.

If you are the head of several companies as businesses (legal entities), you have a Siren number for each of them.

The Siren may only be removed in certain cases:

  • For an individual entrepreneur (IS): on the death of the entrepreneur or on a cessation of activity
  • For a business: during a liquidation

In the event of a change in your situation (or that of your company) or a change in the main activity: you must report each change to Single window for company formalities, regardless of the legal form of your company.

The Siret changes every time the address of one of your establishments changes.

You must report this change of address to Company Formalities Window.

You will then receive a new Siret number, which can be consulted on your personal space.

These data are public.

Any person can find or retrieve the Siren or Siret number of a company if necessary. The legal and financial characteristics of the companies are accessible to all, either on the Sirene Directory, or on theCompany Directory.

  • Find the information from a company other than yours (legal, financial data)
