As of April 2, 2019, Social Security's reimbursement of class 1 artificial hair made of synthetic hair will increase from €125 to €350 for cancer patients with long-term illness (ALD) receiving chemotherapy.
An order published in Official Journal of 20 march 2019 changes the way hair prostheses are treated for people with cancer:
class 1 wigs (of synthetic fibers) are reimbursed up to €350. This amount will also be the ceiling price of these items, allowing a no-charge offer for patients.
Class 2 wigs (with at least 30% of natural hair) are reimbursed €250 for prices limited to €700.
natural hair wigs exceeding €700 are not reimbursed.
In addition, the quality of all wigs that can be taken care of by the Health Insurance is enhanced by the increase in technical requirements.
FYI
Every year, about 50,000 patients use prosthetic hair, more than 9 out of 10 are women.
