The primary school canteen rates (kindergarten and elementary) are fixed by the municipalities. The latter may apply a tariff fixed according to the family quotient (in order to adapt the tariffs to the incomes and expenses of the families).
In secondary education, school canteen rates in middle school and high school depending either on the departments (for colleges) or on the regions (for high schools), the authorities may also charge fees based on the family quotient.
In addition, some families benefit from specific assistance to pay for canteen fees. Inquiries should then be made with the establishments concerned.
