Connected kitchen robot and privacy

Some kitchen robots are equipped with a Wi-Fi connection that allows access to online services (recipes, instructions...), a microphone to record instructions and offer the user the possibility to create an account on the manufacturer's website to benefit from additional services.

The data collected in this way can be used by the manufacturer or its business partners to analyze your habits and offer you targeted advertising.

Know that you must then be informed of the purpose of this reuse, the transmission of data to partners, the nature or even the identity of these partners... You must also be able to accept or reject these operations.

The Council's advice:

• learn about the features of the device before you buy it (on sales sites or discussion forums);
• Tailor your purchase to your actual needs (are the device connectivity features worth the extra cost and risk to my data?)
• Make sure you can physically (by a button on the device) or software (by device settings) disable Wi-Fi, the microphone, or any other feature that you are not using and that can be potentially intrusive.
