Contactless payment: increase of the ceiling to 50 euros for payment by credit card

Contactless payment allows you to easily, quickly and securely pay limited amounts with your credit card or mobile, without the need to count or manipulate currency.

Following the COVID-19 health crisis, the use of contactless payment has increased as it avoids manipulating cash and typing the PIN of one's credit card on payment terminals. This method of payment can thus represent an additional precaution in the context of the epidemic, provided, however, that care is taken to keep the card at a good distance from the terminal.

As a reminder, contactless payment is a short-range radio transmission technology for exchanging data between a reader and a mobile terminal, the communication being done through a miniature antenna. To pay, simply approach the card to the payment terminal (about 3-4 cm) without having to enter a confidential code.

Information such as PIN, visual cryptogram (the 3 digits on the back of the card), your first and last name are not transmitted during a contactless transaction.
