Managers, intermediate occupations, workers, employees... the average salary in the private sector is €2,369 per month in 2018 according to INSEE. With one in two employees earning less than €1,871 per month. And a narrowing gender pay gap, even though women’s pay is on average lower than 16.9%.
On average, a private sector employee in FTEs (full-time equivalent) receives €3,137 gross or, in net, €2,369 per month.
The study by the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (INSEE) published on 4 December 2020 looks at the amounts of remuneration in the private sector for the year 2018.
The INSEE also points out that some wages are below the Minimum Growth Wage (Smic) because of the statutes allowing it but also because of the existence of errors in the administrative declarations between actual working hours and pay (read more about Vie-publique.fr).
