Regional and departmental elections scheduled for March 2021 have been postponed until June due to the health crisis. After receiving the advice of the Scientific Council on the risks of organizing elections and consulting the mayors, the government decided to keep the vote in June but postpone it by a week.
Regional and departmental elections will take place on June 20 and 27, 2021. Originally scheduled for March, they were postponed to June by the law of February 22, 2021. The decree summoning the voters had set the date for the first round to June 13 and the second round to June 20.
On April 13, 2021, before the National Assembly and on April 14 before the Senate, the Prime Minister delivers a declaration under article 50-1 of the Constitution on the organization of regional and departmental elections 2021. The statement comes after the Covid-19 Scientific Council gave an opinion to the Government on the health risks associated with the organization of the elections and after consulting the mayors (read more about Vie-publique.fr).
