From 1to In September 2021, the Covid vaccine booster injection campaign began. In response to the outbreak, the HAS (High Health Authority) now recommends injecting a booster dose for people aged 18 and over within 5 months of first vaccination. This notice was issued on November 25, 2021.

In opinion delivered on Friday, 19 November 2021 , the HAS already recommended that the booster dose be performed from 40 years, 6 months after the last injection. In a new opinion delivered on 25 November 2021 , it recommends that this period be reduced to 5 months and that the recall campaign be extended to all persons 18 years of age and over. The HAS considers that the worrying epidemic context justifies an acceleration of the vaccination campaign by shortening the time between first vaccination and booster dose.

According to recent studies, the reduction in the peak of hospitalisations is indeed of the order of 20% if the recall is only done in persons 65 and over, then it is 40% if the booster dose is extended to all persons 18 years of age and over. Assuming that the recall has the same efficacy after 5 or 6 months, for 400,000 doses distributed daily to people 18 years and older, the reduction in peak size is 50% and 39% respectively for a period of 5 and 6 months.

The HAS stresses that, in the context of increasing the circulation of the virus, especially among older people, it is essential to continue efforts to vaccinate those who have not yet been vaccinated and to provide reminders to eligible groups.
