May 9 is Europe Day!

On 9 May 1950, Robert Schuman, then French Foreign Minister, proposed in a historic speech in Paris a new form of political cooperation for Europe that would make war between the nations of the continent unthinkable. This is the starting point for European integration. Since then, 9 May is Europe Day, celebrated in all the countries of the Union.

To celebrate the day, EU institutions are opening their doors 4 May in Brussels, 9 May in Luxembourg and on 19 May in Strasbourg. Guests can take part in special activities, including public debates and guided tours.

The EU's local offices in Europe and around the world also organize a range of activities and events for all ages. Every year, thousands of people take part in the numerous events and events organized on this day to raise awareness of the EU and bring it closer to its citizens.
