Slaps, beatings, corporal punishment, and also humiliation, insults, bullying, mockery... The Law on the Prohibition of Ordinary Educational Violence, known as , has been definitively adopted. It shall be published in the Official Journal of 11 July 2019.
The law states that parental authority is exercised without physical or psychological violence. This is the article of the Civil Code that is read at the mayor's office during wedding ceremonies.
It also introduces the prevention of ordinary educational violence into the Code of Social Action and Families, by creating a training obligation for childminders.
There are no new criminal penalties, as child abuse is already punishable by up to 20 years in prison.

The text provides for the government to hand over before 1er September 2019 of an inventory of educational violence in France. The report will also assess the needs and resources needed to strengthen the policy of awareness-raising, support and support for parents and the training of the professionals concerned.

France thus becomes the 56the State to ban ordinary educational violence and aligns itself with the International Convention on the Rights of the Child, which it ratified in 1990.
