Online electronic payment authentication will be strengthened, as part of the implementation of the 2e European Payment Services Directive (the ). This is what the Observatory for the Security of Means of Payment (OSMP) states in a press release of September 11, 2019.
In order to limit the risk of fraud in internet payment transactions, it is planned to gradually replace the use of single-use SMS codes by new, safer solutions by December 2020, such as entering a PIN or biometric fingerprint via the mobile online banking application.
By the end of 2020, most consumers will be able to benefit from these new enhanced authentication solutions on online payments of more than €30.
