16 million binational couples, married or living in registered partnerships, reside in the European Union. A year ago, on January 29, 2019, new regulations on the property regimes of international couples entered into force in 18 EU countries.
In 2019, the EU simplified rules for managing the property of international couples in the event of divorce, separation or death. These two regulations, one for married couples and the other for couples in a registered partnership, aim to put an end to the initiation of concurrent proceedings in several Member States (read more about Vie-publique.fr).
