The last municipal elections brought the share of women in municipal councils (mayors, deputy councilors) to 42.4% against 39.9% at the end of the previous term. There are now close to 20% communes that are headed by a woman. Nevertheless, disparities persist across the territory.
One of the points of the law of 27 December 2019 on engagement in local life and proximity to public action was to strengthen parity within the executives of the EPCI (public institutions of intercommunal cooperation).
According to the study published by the General Directorate of Local and Regional Authorities (DGCL), there is an increase in the share of women in municipal councils with more women among the young elected (read more about Vie-publique.fr).
