A 2012 EU regulation allows travel to EU countries without paying additional mobile phone charges. This arrangement is in place until June 30, 2022. On 24 February 2021, the European Commission therefore proposed a new regulation to extend the abolition of these roaming charges by 10 years.
Since 2017, roaming at no extra charge has enabled European consumers to benefit from their mobile phone operator's usual prices throughout the European Union (EU).
With the current rules expiring in 2022, the European Commission reviewed domestic roaming in February 2021. The Commission therefore wishes to renew the most useful measures and improve this system.
This new EU regulation, which provides for an extension of the abolition of roaming charges, will apply to all 27 EU Member States as well as to Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway (read more about Vie-publique.fr).
