On March 26, 2021, the Directorate of Research, Studies, Evaluation and Statistics (Drees) published a dossier on the recent and future demography of the medical and pharmaceutical professions. According to this study, the number of general practitioners will stagnate until 2030, with, at the same time, a decrease in medical density due to the care needs of an aging French population.
Knowing the number of doctors or pharmacists is necessary to organize the provision of care. The number, age, mode of exercise of professionals and duration of education are key factors in understanding the current situation and making projections.
The national health conference must determine the training needs of the medical professions over five years.
