In 2019, the average net salary of public servants remained virtually stable: €2,599 per month. However, according to a recent study by the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (INSEE), wage disparities are increasing slightly.
The state civil service (FPE) employs 2.2 million employees in 2019, according to the latest state civil service salary figures published by INSEE on June 7, 2021. The majority of them work within departments (77.2%). The others (22.8%) are employed by public administrative institutions such as the national social security funds or Pôle emploi.
Nearly three quarters have the status of civil servant (73.4%). Non-public servants (26.6%) are contractors, beneficiaries of assisted contracts, state workers or teachers in private contracted institutions (read more about Vie-publique.fr).
