Rent management in Paris: new amounts from 1 July 2021

The decree published on 7 June 2021 fixes the amounts of reference rents, increased reference rents and reduced reference rents for the entire city of Paris (price per square meter of living space, per category of dwellings and per geographical area).

To find out more about the prices of private rents in Paris, simply consult the interactive map listing all neighborhoods  by filling in:

• the characteristics of the dwelling (number of main rooms, time of construction, type of rental);
• the address of the accommodation or the district you are interested in.

For example, for an unfurnished 2-room apartment in a pre-1946 building, the reference rent is:

• €22.4/m² in the Saint-Fargeau district (20^e rounding);
• €24.4/m² in the Auteuil district (16^e rounding);
• €25.3/m² in the Halles district (1^er rounding);
• €25.4/m² in the Piacenza district (14^e rounding);
• €28.7/m² in the military school district (7^e district).

This means testing this new rent control system until 23 November 2023 throughout Paris, where both:

• a significant difference between the average level of rent in the private rental stock and the average rent in the social rental stock;
• a high median rent level;
• a low rate of housing under construction compared to existing housing over the last 5 years;
• limited prospects for housing construction.
