On 9 September 2021, the list of countries whose travelers are authorized to enter the European Union (EU) for non-essential travel was updated. Tourists from Uruguay can now travel to Europe. In contrast, six new countries, including Japan, were removed from the list.
In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, the European Union (EU) and non-EU Schengen associated countries (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland) have agreed to lift restrictions on non-essential travel to the EU and the Schengen area.
In a press release published on 9 September 2021, the EU Council published the updated list of countries concerned. Member States are called upon not to decide unilaterally to lift travel restrictions on third countries (read more about Vie-publique.fr).
