Part-time, young children, reduced access to management posts... These factors increase the wage inequality between men and women in France. However, the gap has been steadily narrowing over the past 40 years.
In 2017, women earn on average less than 28.5% men in the private sector, according to the study published on 18 June 2020 by the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (INSEE). More than 40% this gap is due to inequalities in working time, with women working much more often part-time than men and less often in employment during the year (read more about Vie-publique.fr).
