Coronavirus outbreak (COVID-19)
Masks must be worn when children are present in day care centers
Publié le null - Directorate for Legal and Administrative Information (Prime Minister)
Health guidelines for the care of young children are changing. The wearing of masks becomes compulsory in the presence of children for childminders working in nurseries or in maternity assistants' homes (MAMs) but not at home. Nursery workers had until now been required to wear masks only in the presence of parents. Following an opinion of the High Council on Public Health, an order issued in Official Journal september 18, 2020, partially amends provisions put in place at the end of august.
In nurseries or in a nursery home, professionals must wear the mask in the presence of children, parents and when working in the same space with a distance of less than one meter between them.
Masks are not required for home care workers when alone in the presence of children. However, they should wear it in the presence of parents or another adult.
The other health measures put in place since 31 August remain valid:
- For parents, masks must be worn inside the childcare facilities and at the home of the mother's assistant and during any interaction between adults, regardless of the distance between parents and professionals, between parents and children or between parents. To facilitate arrivals and departures, as well as adaptation periods, parents can access their child's care facility, but always wearing a mask.
- Children from different groups can be mixed. Thus, the reception of children resumes its usual organization: children from different sections can be reunited in the morning and in the evening.
- It is no longer mandatory to present a medical certificate upon the return of a child whose reception has been suspended, as a preventive measure or following a positive RT-PCR test. The return can be done, depending on the case:
- after a medical consultation that did not give rise to a suspicion of Covid-19;
- after a negative RT-PCR test result;
- at the end of the isolation period or after the child has recovered.
- The role of the Regional Health Agencies in coordinating the measures to be taken as soon as a first case is confirmed is extended to all early childhood care facilities: micro-nurseries, drop-in centers, group nurseries, family nurseries, kindergartens, maternity assistants' homes, maternity assistants' relay (RAM) and parental child care facilities (LAEP). Until now, this role has been limited to the case of clusters in nurseries.
- The exceptional extension of the accreditation for each maternal assistant expires on 30 September 2020.
FYI
The extension of the wearing of masks in the presence of children was decided followingan opinion of the High Council for Public Health (HCSP) of 17 September 2020 on transmission between children and from children to adults.
