Possible solutions include:

• You can quickly contact the landlord to explain the situation and seek solutions with him before the debt gets worse. You can eventually establish a clearance plan, that is, a written settlement agreement, which sets a payment schedule for the lease debt over a few months.
• If you and your landlord have trouble talking to you, you can call on a conciliator of justice to help you find the best solution to your dispute together.
• If the landlord has initiated a procedure to terminate the lease, you can request payment periods from the district court. The judge may, depending on your situation, defer or stagger the debts for a maximum period of three years. This decision suspends the proceedings against you.

• The Solidarity Fund for Housing (FSL) may be seized in order to benefit, under certain conditions, from aid which will be paid directly to the lessor and deducted from the amount of the debt.
• It is possible, under certain conditions, to to refer to the commission for over-indebtedness free of charge. To do this, you need to prepare a file on over-indebtedness and submit it to the Bank of France agency closest to your home.
