Black ideas, deep anxieties, morbid thoughts... The new National Suicide Prevention Number, 3114, begins operation on 1er October 2021. This listening platform for people in psychological distress was announced as part of the Health Sector.
The 3114 is a free telephone number, accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It allows people in psychological distress to exchange and find an appropriate response with psychiatric and mental health professionals (psychiatrists, specialized nurses and psychologists).
This new toll-free number is intended to complement the VigilanS system, created in 2015 in the Hauts-de-France region, for the recall and follow-up of people who have attempted suicide. Currently deployed in 12 out of 13 metropolitan regions and two overseas regions, it will be extended to all regions by the end of 2021
FYI
In metropolitan France, suicide attempts result in about 100,000 hospitalizations and about 200,000 emergency department visits per year, or about 20 suicide attempts for one death.
