In parallel, the lone parents will be eligible for the Family Support Allowance (FSA), subject to conditions, to compensate for this loss of income. Thus, if recovery of maintenance from the payer takes time, the fund will be able to pay in the meantime a family support allowance of €116 per child to the creditor parent who lives alone.

About 30% maintenance payments are not paid or are paid in an irregular manner. The purpose of setting up this public support service is to protect single-parent families in precarious situations and to simplify the daily life of separated parents.

It was the Social Security Financing Act 2020 that introduced this mechanism allowing the payment of maintenance payments through the Family Allowance (CAF) and the Mutualité sociale agricole (Msa) funds. These funds can now collect the pension from the designated parent and then pay it each month to his or her former spouse to cover expenses related to the needs of their children.
