Motor malus

Since 1^er january 2021, a new car malus scale applies (article 55 of the 2021 finance law).

Mileage scales 2021

The new mileage scales for 2020 spending on cars were published on February 20, 2021, in Official Journal. These 2021 scales remain the same as those for 2020 except for electric vehicles, which now benefit from a surcharge of 20%.

Motorway Tariff

Motorway tolls increase by 0.30% to 0.65% on average from 1^er February 2021. The average increase in these fares is 0.44% on all businesses of operation of the motorway network.

New Troubleshooting Rates

Conversion premium

Do you have an old diesel or gasoline car and want to change it? You may be able to get help with scrapping your old car and buying a new or second-hand car that is less polluting! The ecological bonus and the conversion bonus (scrap bonus) have been strengthened since 26 July 2021 for the purchase of a rechargeable electric and hybrid light commercial vehicle.

Ecological Bonus

New rules on aid for the acquisition or rental of new vehicles with a CO2 emission rate of 20 g/km or less (electric or hydrogen vehicles).

Tax Credit for Installing a Charging Station

The 2021 budget extends the flat-rate premium for installing an electrical terminal to tenants or occupants free of charge. Settlement in a second home is now covered.

Used vehicles for sale

Since 12 January 2021, the Histovec website, which allows you to access reliable information on the history of the used vehicle of interest to you, has been enriched with data from the technical controls.

Simplimat Application

Individuals residing in L'Eure-et-Loir, L'Eure and Yvelines can use the new Simplimat app to declare the sale of their vehicle, regardless of the buyer's domicile.

Blind spot marking on heavy goods vehicles

In order to enhance the protection of vulnerable road users, a blind spot signaling device should be settled on heavy vehicles from 1^er January 2021.

Snow tires

In mountainous areas, you will have to equip your car with winter tires or chains in winter or have snow chains in your trunk from November 1, 2021 in some municipalities. The obligation will come into effect on 1^er November 2021.

New Low-Emission Areas

Aix-Marseille, Montpellier, Nice, Rouen, Strasbourg, Toulon and Toulouse are the next to set up Low Emission Zones (LFAs) after Paris, Greater Paris, Lyon and Grenoble. They will be implemented during 2021. In the metropolis of Greater Paris, vehicles of category Crit'Air 4 can no longer circulate from 1^er June 2021.

Navigation Assistants

Certain roadside checks may no longer be reported on GPS applications as of 1^er November 2021.

Radar cars in service in Grand-Est, Hauts-de-France, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté and Nouvelle-Aquitaine from 2^e 2021 semester.

Pound Pounds

Since November 17, 2020, new rules for car pound have come into force in 10 departments. This reform aimed at simplifying the entry, exit and management procedures for impounded vehicles will be implemented throughout the territory by 1^er April 2021.

Telepoints

The service that allows you to see the number of points you have on your driver's license is evolving. You can now consult the information on the validity and categories of your driving license. You can also retrieve your Telepoints PIN by SMS.

Driver's license exam: testing an online registration platform

As of 18 May 2021, the online driver's license appointment system has been extended to 12 new departments. The scheme will gradually be generalized to the whole territory up to 1^er November 2022.

2020 Update on the Latest Changes

Prices charged by approved centers for the roadworthiness testing of light vehicles are available online. The same applies to the approved breathalyzer installer card available since early November 2020.
