The missing person is an adult
There is no clear definition of a disturbing disappearance.
However, the worrying nature of the disappearance can be traced to the following:
- Departure without personal belongings
- Vulnerability of the person due to age, illness, placement under guardianship or trusteeship or disability
- Discovery of suicidal mail or threats
- Suspected radicalization
In the presence of such evidence, and if you are a relative of the missing person (spouse, partner, brother, sister, parent, child, etc.) or his employer, you can request an investigation.
To do this, you can contact the police or the gendarmerie.
If you don't have evidence that the missing person is in danger, you will have to find them on your own. A formal investigation will not be possible.
The missing person is a minor
In case of disturbing disappearance of a minor, a parental abduction including runaways, you should contact police or gendarmerie services near your home.
These services will implement research activities.
To contact the police or gendarmerie, you can call the 17.
The unexplained disappearance of a minor is an emergency.
You can also go directly to a police station or gendarmerie. Their premises are open to the public 24 hours a day. A recent photograph of the child will be requested.
