What is the condition for having a fire at home?

Verified 20 February 2020 - Directorate for Legal and Administrative Information (Prime Minister)

Fire in your home, in a fireplace or in a wood burning stove is regulated. The right to use a wood-burning heater (for its own use, as a back-up heater or as a main heater) depends in particular on the region in which one lives.

General case

You can make fire in your fireplace (with or without insert) or your wood stove if you meet the following 2 conditions:

  • The cleaning is done in accordance with the local rules laid down by municipal or prefectural decree (these rules can be consulted in the town hall).
