The façade of a building is damaged: how often should it be performed?

Verified 07 October 2021 - Legal and Administrative Information Directorate (Prime Minister)

In some communes, a prefectural decree may require the owner of a building to carry out a facade overhaul at least 1 time every 10 years.

Check with the city planning department of your town hall (or visit their website) to find out if you are concerned by this obligation.

If the requirement to carry out a facade overhaul is not met at this frequency, the mayor may require the owner to carry out the overhaul within a period of not more than 1 year.

Without action by the owner within this period, the mayor can have the facade overhaul carried out in his place. The owner will then have to reimburse the expenses incurred for the renovation. These fees are accompanied by a fine of €3,750.
