Facade renovation of a building: how often should it be done?

Verified 07 October 2021 - Directorate for Legal and Administrative Information (Prime Minister)

In some communes, a prefectural decree may oblige the owner of a building to carry out a facade renovation at least once every 10 years.

Check with the city planning department of your city hall (or see its website) to find out if you are affected by this obligation.

Who shall I contact

If the obligation to renovate facades is not respected at this frequency, the mayor may require the owner to carry out this renovation within a period of up to 1 year.

Without action by the owner within this period, the mayor may have the facade work carried out on his behalf. The owner will then have to reimburse the costs incurred for the renovation. These costs shall be accompanied by a fine of €3,750.
