The question of whether clear snow from the sidewalk in front of your homeYes, there are two answers. Service-Public.fr explains:

  • he you must clear snow in front of your house if a mayor's order provides for it. Snow removal consists for residents (tenant, owner, trustee) of clearing snow but also of salt or sand in case of ice. This is done up to the curb with the road. Failure to comply with the snow removal measures imposed by the mayor will result in a fine of €38;
  • in the absence of a municipal decree requiring snow removal, the municipality is responsible for snow removal on public roads (however, you may be liable for negligence in certain cases, such as when snow slips off the roof and damages a car).

FYI

The municipal decree is posted in the town hall, signs can also be placed near the dwellings to indicate this obligation.
