European Mobility Week: this year, move plural!

The 21ste European Mobility Week takes place from 16 to 22 September 2022. It is an annual event held in many European cities. The aim is to encourage citizens and communities to opt for more environmentally friendly modes of transport: public transport, car-sharing, cycling... Theme of the 2022 edition: For better connections, combine mobility! The registration platform has been open since the beginning of summer.

This year's event celebrates a little-known but essential notion for imagining the sustainable cities of tomorrow: intermodality. Or how to combine several modes of transport in the same journey. At European Union level, the concept is a means of integrating all European transport networks and concentrating the challenges related to sustainable urban mobility: optimizing transport, guaranteeing for all the right to transport introduced under the law guiding mobility, promoting greener modes of transport and less greenhouse gas emissions.

How to participate?

Individuals, communities, public institutions, companies and associations can submit and share their projects during Sustainable Mobility Week.

Annual trophies for sustainable urban mobility

European cities that implement innovative initiatives or practices related to sustainable urban mobility can receive different prizes:

  • European Mobility Week Awards for Small and Large Municipalities: they recognize the achievements of cities during the main week of the event.
  • Sustainable Urban Mobility Planning Award (SUMP Award): rewards excellence in sustainable urban mobility planning, based on the European Commission's SUMP guidelines.
  • European Urban Road Safety Award: Recognizes the exemplary and innovative achievements of local authorities in creating a safer urban environment.
