"Mission: find your way" is a device for preventing childhood obesity. This program allows children aged 3 to 12 who are overweight, or at risk of becoming overweight, to benefit from early and multiple management (dietetic, psychological, physical activity). The cost is reimbursed 100% by the Health Insurance. Service-Public.fr explains what it is.

A decree issued on October 31, 2022 at Official Journal specifies the conditions for implementing this childhood obesity prevention pathway for children aged 3 to 12.

Experienced in three territories (the former Nord-Pas-de-Calais region, Seine-Saint-Denis and La Réunion), it should allow children in this age group to benefit, on medical prescription, from care. This is reimbursed 100% by the Health Insurance without any advance payment or overpayment of fees.

Please note

The scheme has been assessed in the framework of therule 51  the 2018 Social Security Financing Act, which aims to improve and transform the health system.

In total, nearly 1,150 doctors prescribed the device during the 3-year experiment. In 9 out of 10 cases, this support allowed children who were overweight or obese to access care for the first time.

Who can prescribe the care path?

The child's doctor is the point of entry into the device. He may be a general practitioner, a pediatrician, a doctor from the Maternal and Child Protection Services (PMI). It identifies the obesity factor by assessing body mass index (BMI) on body shape curves. He then offers the family a multidisciplinary care according to the needs of the child and points to one of the structures referenced “Mission: get your direction back” (the choice of the structure belongs to the family).

The practitioner also coordinates follow-up using debriefings from the practitioners doing the sessions and check-ups and can renew care if needed.

Please note

The school doctor may also prescribe management. In parallel, he informs the child's doctor, who will follow up on the journey.

What is care?

Between the ages of 3 and 12, the child can receive a medical prescription for the following care, over a period of 2 years:

  • 3 evaluations: dietetic evaluation, physical activity evaluation and psychological evaluation. Dietary evaluation is routine. Each evaluation can be done only once per child;
  • 6 sessions of nutritional and/or psychological follow-up, renewable twice if necessary.

Where is the route?

Follow-up of the child is provided by health professionals and psychologists working in health centers and multi-professional nursing homes. The structure must be referenced in advance with the sickness insurance fund of attachment.

In total, 260 establishments (homes and health centers) are listed on ameli.fr.
