Seven questions on unemployment insurance reform

The first provisions of the unemployment insurance reform were introduced in November 2019. Postponed several times due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the reform fully came into effect in October 2021. A new reform, applicable to the 1er February 2023, plans to adjust the duration of compensation to economic conditions.

The unemployment insurance reform follows Macron’s campaign promise to open up unemployment benefits to resigned workers and the self-employed. Initiated by law for freedom to choose one's professional future, she was announced by the Government in June 2019.

After the collapse of the negotiations between the social partners, a decree of non-compliance was issued. The decree of 26 july 2019 sets new unemployment insurance rules until 1er November 2022 (read more).
