The amount of the retirement pension changes every year at 1er January based on the increase in the average value of the consumer price index, excluding tobacco. The rule for the annual revaluation of basic pension amounts is laid down in the Social Security Code.

At 1er January 2024, the increase is 5.3%. Basic retirement pensions were increased by 0.8% in January 2023.

This new increase will be effective on the pension paid in February 2024.

For example, a pensioner currently receiving a basic pension of €1,000 per month will receive a pension of €1,053 from February onwards. If his pension is €1,200, the increase will be €63.60 per month, or €1,263.60.

Who is involved?

14 million pensioners affiliated to various bodies are concerned: persons affiliated to the Cnav (National Old-Age Insurance Fund), the SRE (State Pensions Service), the CNRACL (National Fund of Local Government Agents) and the National Old-Age Insurance Fund of the liberal professions (CNAVPL). This revaluation also applies to persons receiving a survivor’s pension, the supplementary invalidity allowance (SIA) or the solidarity allowance for the elderly (Aspa).

Supplementary pension schemes have their own revaluation rules and are not included in this increase. Only increases in basic pensions are decided by the government.

FYI

employees covered by the Agirc-Arrco supplementary scheme received a 4,9 % increase in their pension in November 2023.
