Since 1991, the Science Fair, organized by the Ministry of Higher Education and Research, is an opportunity for everyone to meet scientists from all fields, to visit laboratories to discover the behind-the-scenes aspects of scientific research, or to exchange with cultural mediators and librarians passionate about science and technical innovation.

The objectives of Science Day are:

  • promoting exchanges between researchers and citizens;
  • value the work of the scientific community;
  • facilitating access to high-quality scientific information;
  • to enable everyone to take greater ownership of the issues at stake in scientific developments, in particular in order to encourage active participation by as many people as possible in public debate;
  • introducing scientists to their work and the professions that come from research;
  • to stimulate interest in science, curiosity about scientific careers, and to stimulate vocations among young people.

Please note

every year, more than a million people take part in the more than 5,000 events organized in France and abroad to celebrate Science Day.

The program of the 2023 edition

With the Rugby World Cup underway in several French cities, and just months away from the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris, several Science Day events will reveal more about how scientific advances translate into our sporting practices, and vice versa.

Through sport, will be presented various scientific developments in nutrition, sociology, biology, biomechanics, psychology, pharmacology, cognitive sciences...

All fields of science are celebrated: life sciences, the universe, the environment, biotechnology, but also the humanities...

Families, school children or students, curious, skeptical or science enthusiasts: animations are designed for all types of audience and all ages.

Find here the program of the Fête de la science throughout France and abroad. You can search for events by combining different criteria: regions, types of activities (workshops, exhibitions, games, shows, conferences...), age of the target audience, accessibility... Some activities, especially for children, take place online.

Three days of entertainment at the Musée de l’Homme

The event kicks off nationwide on Friday 6, Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 October at the Musée de l'Homme in Paris: the venue will open its doors free of charge to visitors, who will be able to enjoy activities at the crossroads of science and sport. For example, you can:

  • Put on a virtual reality headset to improve your stops at football.
  • Endorse an exoskeleton to do sports rehabilitation exercises;
  • attend lectures led by science journalist Fred Courant and the team of the museoducative wizard spirit.

Many scientists and athletes will be present to share their knowledge and experience.

Please note

This year’s edition will feature a fifth volume of “Sciences et bubbles”, a collection of the works of 10 doctoral students who have used comic books to create stories and images of their research. Among the themes:

  • How can the prostheses of disabled athletes help them improve their performance?
  • Can artificial intelligence help gymnasts stay healthy?
  • Roller derby, another way of thinking about sports?

This volume will be made available on loan in libraries, media libraries, documentation and information centers of colleges and high schools, centers of scientific and technical culture...
