Repair of electronic and household appliances: bonus amounts increase!

The repair bonus allows you to receive a discount on your invoice when you bring an electrical or electronic product to a certified repairman, which is no longer covered by a warranty. On October 20, 2023, the Ministry of the Ecological Transition announced an increase, or even a doubling, of the amounts of this assistance, particularly for televisions or dishwashers.

The purpose of the repair bonus, introduced in December 2022, is to encourage individuals to choose to repair their equipment rather than replace it, where possible. This bonus only applies to products that are no longer under warranty.

The 1er january 2024, the amount of the repair bonus increases for several devices. It is doubled:

  • for televisions, from 30 to €60 ;
  • for washing machines, from 25 to €50 ;
  • for dishwashers, from 25 to €50 ;
  • and for tumble dryers, from 25 to €50.

The bonus is more than doubled for vacuum cleaner repair; it will be €40 from 1er January, against 15 € until this date.

For 21 types of devices, the amount of the repair bonus increases by €5. Among them:

  • laptops, the bonus rising from 45 to €50 ;
  • cooks, for which the bonus goes from 20 to €25 ;
  • drones, with a bonus going from 15 to €20 ;
  • kettles, for which the bonus goes from 10 to €15.

In addition, the trigger (which applies to only a few product categories) for the repair bonus for laptops has been lowered: from 1er January 2024, the repair bill will have to be at least €150, up from €180 until that date.

the amount of the bonus is deducted directly from your invoice, allowing you to benefit from an immediate discount on the price of your device repair. If the amount of the repair invoice is less than the amount of the bonus, it cannot be granted to you.

In addition, in order to qualify for the repair bonus, the electrical or electronic equipment must not show a maintenance defect or the problem must not be the result of non-compliant use.

Please note

as of 1er february 2024, if you use a remote repair company that is certified, you will receive the repair bonus on your invoice. Until that date, only repairs carried out by an authorized professional in his workshop, in his shop or at your home, are covered by the repair bonus.

New products eligible for the repair bonus

From 1er january 2024, 24 new devices will be eligible for the repair bonus, including:

  • electric shavers, with a bonus of €15 ;
  • epilators, for which a bonus of €15 ;
  • microwave ovens, with a bonus of €20 ;
  • mobile air conditioners, for which the bonus will be €25 ;
  • printers, with a bonus of €35 which applies only to repair invoices amounting to at least EUR 150.

In addition, the criteria of “accidental breakage” (broken mobile phone screen, broken washing machine handle, etc.) are gradually being incorporated into the eligibility criteria for the repair bonus. Thus, from 1er January 2024, €25 will be deducted from your bill when you have your mobile phone’s broken screen repaired.

You can find on the Ministry of Ecological Transition website all the appliances covered by the repair bonus and the change in amounts applying on 1er January 2024.

Please note

to receive the financial support for the repair bonus, you must use an authorized repairer. On-site ecosystem.eco, you will find a directory of repairers that allow you to benefit from the bonus.

The Repair Bonus scheme is financed by two funds, which are financed by the manufacturers of electrical and electronic equipment, and managed by two eco-organizations. Authorized repairers are reimbursed directly by eco-organizations.

Reminder

The criteria for ineligibility for the ecological bonus include:

  • the fact that the product does not comply with French regulations (a television purchased abroad, a washing machine of a brand not distributed in France...);
  • if the damage is non-functional (repairing the broken door of a dishwasher or the bottle holder of a refrigerator, etc.);
  • if it is a question of replacing the consumables or accessories of a device (replacing the ink cartridges of a printer, changing the removable battery of a smartphone, repairing the removable charging cable of a portable computer...).
