An order issued in Official Journal November 15, 2023, recognizes the state of natural disaster in 24 towns in the North and 181 towns in Pas-de-Calais, following damage caused by flooding and mudslides between November 2 and November 12, 2023.

Following the floods and floods in the Nord and Pas-de-Calais regions, 205 municipalities in these two departments were declared natural disasters.

In the decree of 15 November 2023, it is stated that this decision was taken because “the abnormal intensity of the phenomenon during the event is characterized by the accumulation of precipitation and the flows of the watercourses”.

Municipalities recognized as being in a state of natural disaster are listed annexed to the Order of 14 November 2023.

If your property has been damaged due to flooding or mudslides between November 2 and November 12, 2023, you have 30 days after the publication of the decree to notify your insurer of the damage suffered, with a view to taking responsibility for the settlement of the claim. You can only be compensated if you have added a “natural disasters” guarantee to your insurance contract, or if you have signed up to a contract that automatically includes it (home multi-risk insurance...).

Reminder

the state of natural disaster is a guarantee put in place by the state since 1982 to compensate victims of rare natural events (drought, severe storms, floods, mudslides, avalanches, earthquakes...). An inter-ministerial decree specifies the municipalities recognized as being in a state of natural disaster, the periods during which the events occurred and the nature of the damage caused by the natural disaster.

Please note

hail and high wind damage are excluded from the natural disaster guarantee. They are covered by the "storm, snow and hail" warranty of property damage insurance contracts.
