Publié le 06 décembre 2023 - Legal and Administrative Information Directorate (Prime Minister)

Foreigners students who wish to enroll in the first year of a bachelor's degree at a French university must follow a special procedure: this is the application for prior admission. The application campaign for the 2024-2025 academic year ends on December 15. Service-Public.fr tells you how to do this.

Who is involved?

The application for prior admission (ETA) shall apply to foreigner students:

  • having a nationality other than that of a country of the European Union (EU), the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland;
  • and holders of a foreigners secondary school leaving diploma (outside the EU).

Please note

Candidates of Swiss nationality, from a country of the European Union or of the European Economic Area must connect to Browse. They will have to present the diploma giving them access to higher education in the country where it was obtained.

How do I proceed?

Students can broadcast 3 wishes at the time of the application for prior admission.

The form to be filled out differs depending on the student's place of residence:

  • students residing abroad who do not have a bachelor's degree in French or European : the form white file. It is to be handed over to the Cooperation and Cultural Action Department of the French Embassy in the country of residence. Except in exceptional cases, a paid language test is required (for a minimum amount of € 74);
  • students residing in France who do not have a French or European baccalaureate : the form green file. It is to be given directly to the 3 universities chosen by the student.

The DAP will have to be submitted no later than 15 december 2023. After that date, it will no longer be admissible.

Please note

69 countries require a specific approach: a request for prior admission and a long-stay visa for France will have to be made simultaneously. The procedure is done via the website Campus France.

FYI

universities have until April 30, 2024 to forward their acceptance proposal to the applicant.

You have until May 31, 2024 to give your answer to the university that has made you a proposal to enroll. If you receive more than one proposal, you will need to choose only one. Failure to respond after this date is tantamount to a refusal on your part of the registration proposal.
