Back-to-school allowance (RSA)

Do you have at least one child in school aged 6 to 18? You may be entitled to the back-to-school allowance (RSA), subject to resource conditions. This allowance helps you to finance the expenses of the school year. The amount depends on your child's age and education level. We present you with the information you need to know.

The family's resources must not exceed a certain limit.
For the back to school 2024, on categorical net income of the year 2022 serves as a reference.
The ceiling of resources not to be exceeded to benefit from the SRA varies according to the number ofdependent children :

The ceiling is the same, regardless of the situation of the beneficiary family.
Warning
If the ceiling is slightly exceeded, a degressive allocation called differential allocation, calculated on the basis of income, may be paid.

Thus, back to school 2024, the child must be born between 16 September 2006 and 31 December 2018 (inclusive).

Child in apprenticeship
If your child is in apprenticeship and his/her remuneration exceeds a certain ceilingNo, you can't take advantage of the LRA.
Child attending school and assigned by the judge to child welfare
If your school child is entrusted by the judge to child welfare (Ase) or at a health or educational service or institution, the LRA will be kept in an account blocked with the Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations.
It will be paid to the child, at his request, when he reaches the age of majority, to accompany him in his autonomy.
Amounts paid for the 2024 school year vary by age of child as of december 31, 2023:

You're a Cif recipient
Procedures vary depending on the age of the child.
Child under 16 years
There is no process to be done.
However, you must have filed your 2023 income tax return and the 2023 income tax return to the family allowance fund (Caf).
Young person born between 16 September 2006 and 31 December 2008
You must have filed your 2023 income tax return and the 2022 income tax return to the family allowance fund (Caf).
You must also declare that your child will still be in school or learning by the start of the 2024 school year. This statement must be made from mid-July on your CFOC website.
You're not a Caf recipient
To be eligible for the LRA in the 2024 season, you must complete a 2022 statement of family benefits and housing status and a statement of resources.
If your child under the age of 6 is enrolled in the CP, you must also send the certificate of schooling sent by your child's institution to the Caf.
You are dependent on the MSA (agricultural regime)
The steps are different depending on whether or not you have already received the LRA for your child.
You are an MSA recipient
