How to insure a tractor or farm self-propelled machine?
Verified 14 March 2022 - Directorate for Legal and Administrative Information (Prime Minister)
If you use a tractor or farm self-propelled machinery, you must insure it at least for the civil liability.
The trailer coupled to such machinery must also be insured. You can insure the trailer in the same contract or in a separate contract.
If you make modifications to the trailer, you must report it to the insurance.
In addition to the civil liability guarantee, you can subscribe to additional guarantees to be better protected in case of disaster. For example, you can take out the following guarantees:
- Warranty "damage"
- Warranty "theft and fire"
- Warranty "legal protection"
- Warranty machine breakage, which covers accidental breakage or destruction of equipment in operating premises (wear and tear or damage covered by the manufacturer's warranty are excluded).
If the tractor is carrying passengers, you must follow the safety rules. For example, it is necessary to avoid transporting more passengers than the number of seats provided by the manufacturer. In the event of non-compliance with these rules, and in the event of an accident, the insurer will compensate the victims, but it may turn against you.
If you use a tractor and its trailer for a party or for hunting, you must ask your insurer for an extension of warranty. This situation is not generally provided for in guaranteed cases.
